This section will introduce you to the course and university I have chosen, which will help me achieve professional and life success. Malcolm X said it best, 'Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. ' I believe that choosing the place where you are going to study is also important. Therefore I started my journey with British higher education at De Montfort University (DMU). The university is five minutes away from the city centre, which provides many attractions, especially as Leicester is a historic city, so there is plenty to see. DMU supports students at every step, it has a dedicated student support team to help deal with any issues you may have before, during and after your studies, including academic support, personal tutor scheme, student finance, mental health support, wellbeing, and disability advice and support. DMU has "Replay" technology that allows you to access pre-recorded audio-visual content and re-watch your lectures as many times as you like. With a huge range of study spaces, the library meets a variety of requirements and is open for long hours, with a friendly, knowledgeable team on hand to assist. Library and education services provide enhanced online support and resources, and High-level technology and software support. DMU ranks gold in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), the only UK government-approved measure of teaching quality in higher education. Moreover, DMU was named one of the top 20 universities in terms of graduate prospects by the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. It is worth mentioning that Leicester was among the top ten cities for young people in a national poll. (De Montfort University, 2022). My main aim is to become a full stack developer which proficient create high-quality desktop, web and mobile applications. Therefore I chose the Software Engineering course at DMU.

De Montfort University offers mandatory courses for the software engineering course such as:

  • Database Design and Implementation.
  • Fundamental Concepts of Computer Science
  • Computer Programming.
  • Operating Systems and Networks.
  • Object Oriented Design and Development.
  • Data Structures and Algorithms.
  • Web Application Development
  • Software Engineering Team Project
  • Software Development: Methods and Standards
  • Mobile App Development and Big Data.


In the final year, you are able to choose from among the three available modules the one that interests you the most:

  • Functional Programming
  • Advanced Web Development
  • Embedded Systems and IoT

As a man who is in love with programming, it's so hard for me to determine which module is the most interesting, because everything is also important to me, although I would chose object oriented design and development. It is thought that object-oriented programming is one of the most important concepts in programming.

I realized that studying will bring me a lot of experience as a programmer, and the university itself helps to find internships after classes, However the first year, maybe two years after graduation, I will focus on gaining experience in the labour market. Nevertheless, I will always think about opening my own company that will creates high-quality software.
